So here’s the story. We’ve been meeting a lot of dynamic people doing a lot of awesome things in Detroit lately. We’ve immersed ourselves within the community and have gotten involved with a couple interesting projects. But now we’re going to take it to the next level.
We’re displaced Detroiters. We’ve been watching the city from the burbs our entire lives, raised in fear and heartbreak of a city that once was, occasionally venturing down for a baseball game or concert. We’ve slowly crept back in and have realized “hey, there’s people here who feel the exact same way and are actually DOING something to change it”. Now we want to follow their lead. We want to commit our time, money and energy into starting our own ventures in the city. We’ve put a deposit down on a space in Corktown and we’re moving. It’s official.
We’ll be working with movetodetroit.org as we move to gather information and resources on how to make the transition to the city easier in hopes of inspiring others to do the same. The cool part about this is that we’ll be using this blog, social media outlets, pictures and video to document the entire process, every step of the way. Our hope is that it gets picked up nationally and WE DETROITERS have a voice to the negative stereotypes that are constantly being fed by national media. By showcasing all of the fantastic organizations and people that are doing great things, we’re going to show the world what Detroit is really about.
Currently we’re working on building out the space. We’re looking for some up cycled materials to build out six thousand square feet. In the coming weeks, we’ll be revealing who we are and what we’ll be doing with our time in the city. Want to help? Help us spread the word! Use the #movetodetroit hashtag and tell people our story.
